Salmon Fishing Vancouver Island
My wife and I again this year fished at Rodger’s, it continues to be a highlight in our yearly world travels. We have already made our reservation to return next year. This year the fishing was as good as ever, we brought back over 160 lbs. of salmon, halibut, yellow eye and ling fillets. We fished about 25 hours to catch that amount of fish. The lodge remains the same providing clean quality accommodations. Rodger’s Lodge is a “fisherman’s” paradise. The quality of fishing is as good as any Alaska fishing trip you will ever take (this from a person who lived 5 years in Alaska). Average fish sizes are Kings 20-30 lb., Coho 10-20 lbs. and Halibut 40-70 lbs. We would say the vast majority of guests take home their limit of salmon and halibut. One first time group of 5 guests we met this year actually had to phone home to Home Depot to have some extra freezers delivered to their house while they were fishing to store all the fish they caught. That is a quality fishing problem to have! We have now fished Rodger’s for several years and plan on returning for many years to come. Whether you are a hard core angler or a novice looking for your first try at salt water fishing we cannot think of a better choice than Rodger’s. The have one thing no other lodge has and that is location. Simply stated they sit at the door to the best consistent salmon, halibut and ling fishing on the entire BC/Alaska coast. For 100 years the Rodgers family has been sportfishing in British Columbia.

It began in 1912 when Doug’s Grandfather, (Joseph) first towed a string of six rowboats from Kitsilano Beach in Vancouver out to Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver, where he began Rodgers Boat rentals. Joseph had bought 2000 feet of prime waterfront which eventually housed a hotel and a large dance hall. They built all of their own row boats and had the first put – puts on the BC coast.

During the 30’s and 40’s, Doug’s Dad, Howard, rented and chartered boats to sports fisherman looking to land the big one! As well, Howard ran the first water taxi service with his famous boat the Commadore. He serviced places like Britannia Mines, Woodfibre, Port Mellon and Squamish. Twenty nine years ago, Doug started his own charter business in Campbell River. What began as Shoreline Charters with one Boston Whaler and one guide (Doug) grew into Anchor Inn Charters with 17 boats and guide
